Please be aware that new regulations have been implemented within the chiropody/ podiatry profession. These regulations are for the protection of you, the patient.
The title chiropodist/podiatrist is now a protected title. This means that any person practising as a chiropodist/podiatrist, must be registered with the Health Professions Council (HPC). The HPC superceded the 1960 Supplementary to Medicines Act, which governed state registered chiropodists. The term ‘state registered’ is now obsolete. It is now a criminal offence for any person not on the HPC register to call themselves a chiropodist/podiatrist, or to advertise that they provide a chiropody service.
Furthermore, if any person not on the register knowingly allows a member of the public to believe they are a chiropodist/podiatrist, they will also be committing a criminal offence. In both cases they will be prosecuted and are liable to a maximum fine of £5000.
